Gianni Schicci & L’Enfant et les sortileges

Pacific Opera Project

Just made my company debut with Pacific Opera Project in their 10th Anniversary, season opener, double bill of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi (Pinellino) and Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortileges (La Bergere, Une Pastourelle, La Chauve-souris).

I’ve been excited about the work that POP. has been doing for the last few years and was jazzed when they asked if I wanted to be part of this production. The Ravel offers SUCH interesting music and is technically extremely difficult to pull off. You need a cast of 16 fabulous singers (which is spot on because my cast mates were FIRE!) and soooooo many costumes! Maggie Green was the costumer-extraordinaire and created 84 different costumes for these two productions. The bulk of these were seen in the Ravel as we meandered a fantasyland that included clocks and tea cups coming to life, as well as lush garden scenes with frolicking forest beasts.

The process was swift and a total BLAST! Within 5 days both shows were fully staged. The cast and crew were full of fun and positivity – like a rowdy summer camp.

I’m sad to put this fabulous music to bed, but…on to the next!
